  17. If you have been looking at sales and inventory software you have probably
  18. voiced some of the following concerns:

  25. and your customers. Retail Plus serves that goal. It is designed for those who

  27. or preparing invoices. It is more than an inventory system with a point-of-sale
  28. screen. It is an organizer, an analyzer and a time saver. Retail Plus has the

  63.                              SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  65. > Any MS-DOS microcomputer.

  67. > A hard disk drive with at least 2MB of free space.

  71. > A printer capable of compressed print (15 cpi), or a wide carriage printer
  72.   (132 columns). For printing bar code labels you will need an HP LaserJet or
  73.   work-alike printer.

  79.                      QUICKSTART INSTALLATION OF RETAIL PLUS

  82. Retail Plus version 5.2 is supplied as an archive file called "PLUS52.ZIP".
  83. It contains all the files you need. Follow these steps to get a functioning
  84. system onto your hard drive:
  85.  
  86. 1 - At the "C:>" prompt create a new directory on your hard drive and go to
  87. that directory:
  88.                      MD RETAIL              <press enter>
  89.                      CD\RETAIL              <press enter>
  90.  
  91. 2 - Using an archive un-packing utility such as UNZIP.EXE, unpack the contents
  92. of PLUS52.ZIP into the new directory:
  93.  
  94.                      UNZIP A:PLUS52         <press enter>
  95.  
  96. 3 - Now check for a file called "CONFIG.SYS" in the root directory of the
  97. startup drive. If it is there it should contain the following statements with
  98. the at least minimum values shown (they can be greater but not smaller):
  99.  
  100.                      FILES = 30
  101.                      BUFFERS = 10
  102.  
  103. You can check the contents of CONFIG.SYS just by typing:
  104.  
  105.                      TYPE CONFIG.SYS        <press enter>
  106.  
  107. If the files & buffers statements are absent you can use any text editor to
  108. insert them.
  109.  
  110.                             STARTING RETAIL PLUS
  111.  
  112. To start Retail Plus go to the directory where it is found and enter R52
  113. at the DOS prompt:
  114.                      CD\RETAIL              <press enter>
  115.                      R52                    <press enter>
  116.  
  117. Explanation: The installation process creates a file called R52.BAT that
  118. contains the following two lines:
  119.                                   SET CLIPPER=F:30
  120.                                   RETAIL52
  121.  
  122. Retail Plus should always be started up with this batch file, otherwise your
  123. system may not allow it to open enough files. If at some point in the program
  124. you press F1 for help, and instead of a help screen you get a DOS Error 4 (too
  125. many files open), then you know that you cannot open enough files. If this
  126. happens try typing SET at the DOS prompt. You should then see CLIPPER=F:30 on
  127. the screen along with the other DOS environment setups. If it is not there then
  128. the program was not started up using R52.BAT. If the file R52.BAT is missing
  129. you can create it with any text editor such as the DOS Edit command.

  131. Retail Plus is initially configured to start without requiring a password. If
  132. it does prompt you for a password just type "TEST" and press ENTER. You can
  133. remove this password later and set up new ones if you need security. If this
  134. password does not give you access then someone has already set up the system
  135. for security.
